Learning Methods

24 Oct

Throughout the centuries even the beginning of human-race, we people around the world are develop based on what they have acquire through knowledge and experiences in life which we call “learning”. Learning is defined as the process relatively permanent behavioral change or the potential behavioral change. Similar to what we learn we have the ability to alter the way we perceive our surroundings such in a way as we first interact with environment. This is the beginning where learning takes places to acquire something new or modifying them in our own liking; such like obtaining knowledge, behaviors, skills, values and preferences are actually process based on our limited understating with the environment. In John B. Watson research of learning,  on Behaviorism, which he believe that process of learning affects based on their behavior. The method of his study was to observe the behaviors of the students based on the person’s mood or thoughts towards the subject, proving that behavioral interacting was first process in human development in terms in learning.

Moreover to John B. Watson studies, the famous Behaviorist, B.F. Skinner who continue on Watson’s research and findings. But the outcome was different to Watson perspective in his studies. His belief was that internal states could influence behavior just as external stimuli. In his research many consider it to be the Radical Behaviorist but people nowadays believed that both internal and external stimuli are factors influencing our behavior. The Behavioral Psychology is basically interested in how our behavior results from the stimuli both in the environment and within ourselves. They study, often in minute detail, the behaviors we exhibit while controlling for as many other variables as possible. Often a grueling process, but results have helped us learn a great deal about our behaviors, the effect our environment has on us, how we learn new behaviors, and what motivates us to change or remain the same.

However learning doesn’t end here, human developments have many methods that we could learn a part of our education, personal development, schooling and training. It may be goal-oriented and may be aided by motivation. The study of how learning occurs is part of neuropsychology, educational psychology, learning theory, and pedagogy. Learning may occur as a result of habituation or classical conditioning, seen in many animal species, or as a result of more complex activities such as play, seen only in relatively intelligent animals. Learning may occur consciously or without conscious awareness. There is evidence for human behavioral learning prenatally, in which habituation has been observed as early as 32 weeks into gestation, indicating that the central nervous system is sufficiently developed and primed for learning and memory to occur very early on in development.
